Description of Position

The Valve Design Engineers are a pivotal part of the production process from sale to delivery. The role will assist in the design and development of new and existing valve products to meet both industry and customer specific specifications. The candidate will need to be ‘hands on’ as this role will involve shop floor troubleshooting and continuous improvement to existing products. 


  • Regular Shop floor troubleshooting and problem-solving, which is well documented within a report, leading to the implementation of product improvements.
  • The design and development of new and existing valve products to meet both industry and customer specific specifications typically to ASME VIII, ASME B16.34, ASME B16.5, API 6A, 6D Design codes.
  • The preparation of Bills of materials within the company's MRP system (Syspro).
  • The preparation of installation, operational and maintenance manuals.
  • The preparation of valve factory test procedures.
  • The preparation of General Assembly and manufacturing drawings utilising Autodesk Inventor/ Cad packages.
  • Ensuring that Health & Safety and Environmental standards are complied with

General Skills

  • Strong design skills that could be utilised for valve design.
  • Hands on experience essential as the role calls for regular valve troubleshooting.
  • Excellent skills in working with 2D and 3D drawing packages, ideally Autodesk Inventor (3D) and Auto Cad (2D).
  • The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Experience with an MRP system
  • Understanding of drawing standard BS8888 (formerly BS308).

Qualifications and Experience 


  • Degree or similar in Engineering


  •  Previous experience within the Valve Industry 


As per department salary banding and depending on experience and skill level   


Working Hours

38 3/4 hours per week

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am – 17.00pm – lunch 12.30 to 13.00 (or as required).

Friday: 8.30am – 15.45pm – lunch 12.30 to 13.00 (or as required).


33 days annual leave made up of flexible, statutory and end of year shutdown holidays.
